- Garage — often the most cluttered space and the easiest win for a quick visual improvement.
- Closets — buyers open them. Overstuffed closets read as "not enough storage," even when that's not true.
- Extra furniture — oversized or excess furniture makes rooms look smaller than they are.
- Personal clutter — anything that makes it harder for a buyer to picture their own life in the space.
What to do with what comes out
Some of it goes into storage if you're staying in the home during showings. The rest — broken, unused, or just excess — is worth clearing out entirely rather than shuffling it into a closet a buyer will open anyway.
