What Happens to Your Junk After Pickup?

Once your junk is loaded onto the truck, it doesn't all go to the same place. Responsible haulers sort loads into a few different paths, and it's worth knowing what those are — especially if keeping things out of the landfill matters to you.

Donation

Furniture, appliances, and household goods that are still in usable condition can often be dropped at local donation centers instead of the dump. This is the first stop we consider for anything that's clean and functional — no reason to landfill something someone else could still use.

Recycling

Metal, e-waste, and some construction materials get pulled out and taken to recycling facilities separately. Appliances in particular tend to have a lot of recyclable metal in them, which is part of why they're handled differently than general household junk.

Landfill

What's left — broken, unusable, or just not accepted anywhere else — goes to the landfill. This is genuinely the last resort for most legitimate junk removal companies, not the default, because tipping fees add up and most of us would rather not send usable stuff there anyway.
